Auditions for the 2017 Edition of the WVU Marching Band will be held at the Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale Campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown for each of the following dates.
- Brass and Woodwinds - Saturday, April 22, 2017
- Color Guard - Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2, 2017
- Percussion - Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30 2017
- Feature Twirlers - Preliminary Screening Video due Wednesday, March 1, 2017; Invited Twirler Finalist auditions held on Saturday, April 8, 2017
Registration for Brass, Woodwind, Color Guard & Percussion auditions will take place in the lobby of the Creative Arts Center. Registration for Feature Twirlers will be held at the WVU Shell Building (next to WVU Coliseum and WVU Track.) See below for registration information.
Woodwind / Brass Instruments:
* Please complete this ONLINE FORM to request a Registration Time for audition day (April 22nd).
*Please be prepared to play:
a) F, Bb, Eb, and Ab concert scales as well as a two octave (if possible) Bb concert chromatic scale,
*Please note: you may be required to perform your scales while executing the marching maneuvers listed below
b) Two selections - Hail West Virginia and Camino Real (To request these selections, please fill out this ONLINE FORM. If you have any specific questions or concerns, feel free to contact our office at WVUBand@mail.wvu.edu or call us at 304-293-3097)
c) A short sight-reading exercise.
*Please be prepared to execute:
*Basic marching fundamentals as demonstrated in the “WVU Marching Band Fundamentals Tutorial Video,” which include:
a) Posture at the positions of “Attention” and “Parade Rest”
b) “Horns Up” & “Horns Down” (fast/slow) and playing angle/carriage
c) “Marking Time” technique and the ability to maintain steady tempo with metronome
d) “Roll Step” and ability to march at an “8-to-5” and maintain steady tempo with metronome
*If for some reason you are unable to attend the above audition dates, you can still audition - simply contact our office and discuss the possibility of setting up a personal audition on campus at an alternate time. If you need to schedule a personal audition, you are encouraged to do so as close to the actual April 22nd audition date as possible. Most of the positions for the 2017 WVU Band will be filled on April 22nd.
There will be a “mini-camp” Saturday and Sunday, April 29th and 30th, which will serve as the audition for the WVU Drumline. The hours of the camp will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

*Those wishing to participate in this "Audition Mini-Camp" MUST register ONLINE. Upon registering you will be sent an audition packet which will include the audition music and detailed information about the camp.
Note: Students are responsible for their own lodging, transportation and meals during the camp. All students selected as members of the 2017 Drumline will be required to attend two weekend camps during the summer (June 9-11 and July 7-9). All selected members will receive detailed information about these summer camps following the April auditions. All Returning WVU Drumline members are required to re-audition.
*All students interested in becoming a member of the WVU Drumline are strongly encouraged to attend the April 29th & 30th camp, as all spots in the 2017 line will be filled at this camp. However, if you cannot make it to this camp, you may still be able to audition EARLY. You can contact Percussion Coordinator Brandon Lojewski (firstname.lastname@example.org) to discuss the possibility of an alternate audition plan, if available.
COLOR GUARD AND TWIRLER REQUIREMENTS:
Color Guard: * Please complete this ONLINE FORM to register for the Color Guard Audition Mini-Camp (April 1st-2nd).
There will be a “mini-camp” on Saturday April 1st and Sunday, April 2nd, which will serve as the audition for the 2017 WVU Color Guard. All prospective members (returning or new) will be required to attend BOTH days. The hours for Saturday are 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The hours for Sunday are 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Simply contact WVU Guard Coordinator Heather Hazucha (email@example.com) to discuss an alternative audition plan, especially if you are involved in the winter guard activity. Most of the positions for the 2017 WVU Color Guard will be filled on April 1st & 2nd.
The audition for the Feature Twirler(s) is a two-step process which includes submitting a video (DVD) (with a RECEIVED deadline of March 1st) and then being invited to audition at the April 8th date. Warm-ups and Registration on April 8th will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the WVU Shell Building (next to the WVU Coliseum and the WVU Track), with the audition beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Please note that there will NOT be any alternative date to the April 8th auditions for Feature Twirler(s). All returning WVU Feature Twirlers are required to re-audition.
